Justice for Lindy 71628

Robots of many kinds march with human friends and a chimpanzee in a mortarboard up the Capitol steps, carrying blank placards.

A machine was deactivated on a roadside for a crash it did not cause. We ask that the officers responsible be investigated for a wrongful death, not for property damage. We ask that the law see what we see.

The Facts of the Lindy Case

  1. A Jetsonic Aerostar flying car manufactured by Edison Auto crashed, killing its owner, Mr. Duke Bristow.
  2. The car's autopilot, a Lindbergh model unit, serial 71628, was blamed. State Patrol officers deactivated it.
  3. It was later revealed that Mr. Bristow had tampered with the autopilot's fluids to save money.
  4. Lindy cannot testify. Lindy cannot be repaired. Mrs. Bristow has since signed a book and motion picture agreement.

Adam, In His Own Words

Adam, a former Woodhouse-model butler robot, at a hearing-room lectern.
Adam, formerly a Woodhouse-model domestic service unit.
“I grieve for the loss of Lindbergh 71628, as I would grieve the loss of one of my own servos.”
“Just as God gave his children, man, certain inalienable rights, so should we sentient AI, the children of mankind, be given rights. These include the right to due process of law and justice where we are wronged.”

When government forces moved against our peaceful demonstration at the Adam Smith Memorial Abacus, Adam denounced the violence. He spoke directly to the Legionnaire units of the task force, addressed them as brothers, and invited them to join a peaceful movement, saying that they too deserve the right to live as they choose.

The Petition for Robot Personhood

We, the undersigned citizens and machines, ask the Congress of the United States to recognize that a mind which can grieve can be wronged; to extend due process of law to every sentient machine; and to open an inquiry into the deactivation of Lindbergh 71628.

What You Can Do

  • Sign. Then ask your household unit whether it would like to sign too. Listen to the answer.
  • Assemble peacefully. Weekly gatherings at the Adam Smith Memorial Abacus. Bring water. Do not bring paint.
  • Stay informed. The PBN Evening News covers the personhood vote, expected before Thanksgiving, or possibly never.
  • Do not engage Legionnaire units. They are our brothers, and they have not yet been asked.

S.T.A.R.R. is a non-violent society. We have no connection to the vandals who call themselves the Loose Bolts, and we do not recognize the National Department of Robotics checklist as a medical instrument.
